Understanding 2012 – 1 of 8: ‘What do we know for sure?’

♥ TO JOIN THE DISCUSSION PLEASE GO TO THE INDIVIDUAL POST PAGE ♥

How many of you saw the Hollywood blockbuster ‘2012’? How many of you scour the prophecy websites looking to see if and when that asteroid will hit earth and whether you live on a flood plain? Is any of that based in fact or truth or is it just fear gathering fear? Do you know where the whole 2012 thing started?

Today in blog 1 of 8 on ‘Understanding 2012’  I will share research and information that I hope will help dispel hysteria, dissolve myths and get to the truth of what 2012 really means. This blog is not conclusive by any means, it is a blog, I have done my best to summarise key facts and present this as clearly and dispassionately as possible.

I share a cross-section of the facts as we know them right now relating to the significance of the date rather than all the associated meanings, I explore those later in the BlogCast (see below for a list of the next 7 Blogs in the BlogCast). I leave you to pursue your own further research and of course I welcome any extra factual information you may have to add to the discussion. I love to hear from you. Please feel free to leave your comments in the box beneath the post.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Most of you will know that the internet is chock-a-block with doom and gloom portents about the end of the world. Somehow the date of December 21st 2012 has become attached to a cataclysmic ending of humanity. This global whisper of doom has gathered momentum over the past few years and we take each news report of a natural disaster as ‘evidence’ that those predictions are coming true.

2012 has become the portentous label attached to everything from earthquakes and Tsunamis to global financial meltdown. A powerful global superstition has clouded and confused the facts until we no longer know what is true.

An equally prevalent global gossip train and collective belief is that on December 21st 2012 all those who have been ‘chosen’ will be lifted into spaceships or ascend to heaven on earth or another dimensional reality. As a Lightworker you may be surprised to hear me question this. I question everything, I suggest you do the same. In fact I urge you to question everything you hear and read about 2012 including the posts in my BlogCast, do your own research and select carefully and mindfully what you allow to shape your consciousness……because THAT is what will shape your world…..What do YOU feel about this? Join the discussion, have your say and ask questions in the box beneath this post.

My greatest concern is how readily people seem to be jumping on particular fear-based 2012 bandwagons.

Discernment, discernment, discernment. Trust what feels true to you, despite what I or anyone else says or writes. But please, please, please be willing to explore all around the issue of 2012, to see it from every angle and ensure you pierce through any delusions of consciousness or collective memes.

Later in this BlogCast I will post blogs where I do share my own ‘knowings’, feelings, beliefs and opinions  about 2012 along with some of the more popular assumed truths. For today I will share some of what has been documented so far as historical data.

So let’s break it down…

THE MAYAN CALENDAR – The Mayan civilization reached its height from 300 AD to 900 AD. It was situated in modern day Mexico and Central America. They had their own very sophisticated calendar, different from ours today called the ‘Long Count’ calendar. This calendar begins in 3,114 BC, time is marked out in approximately 144,000 day/394-year periods known as Bak’tuns. The 13th Bak’tun known as the cycle relating to the Transformation of Matter ends around Dec 21, 2012. Click Here for an image of the fractal time map by Dr Jose Marguelles depicting the 13 Bak’tun cycle of the ancient Maya.

OTHER CULTURES – Several cultures recognise the end of a cycle at around the same time. For example in the 4 Yugas’ or cycles of the Indian Scriptures we are about to leave Kali Yuga. This is the final cycle, a destructive, dark 432,000 year age of meltdown. The cycles keep going and we are now due to enter the Satya Yuga, sometimes called The Golden Age and one that traditionally is said to last 100,000 years.

MONUMENT SIX & THE ANNIVERSARY OF CREATION – Not knowing what comes after December 21st 2012 does not worry the Mayans. They see it simply as the end of one cycle and the start of another. Simply the end of the world as we know it rather than a literal ending. Back in the 1960s in Southern Mexico, a stone tablet was discovered in Tortuguero during highway construction. On it was an inscription citing an event that would happen in 2012. This site is now known as Monument Six.

“It’s a special anniversary of creation,” said David Stuart, a specialist in Mayan epigraphy at the University of Texas at Austin. “The Maya never said the world is going to end, they never said anything bad would happen necessarily, they’re just recording this future anniversary on Monument Six.”

WHAT THE MAYANS THEMSELVES SAY – Mayan Elder Apolinario Chile Pixtun, a Guatemalan, says the doomsday theories spring from modern ‘Western’ and not Mayan ideas. [Mr] Pixtun is tired of being bombarded with frantic questions about the end of the world. “I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff,” he said – Telegraph Oct 11, 2009

A 13th generation Mayan Elder Don Alejandro Perez Oxlaj talks about what 2012 means

GALACTIC ALIGNMENT – In his book ‘Maya Cosmogenesis 2012’, John Major Jenkins shares that the ancient Mayan culture calculated a rare alignment of our sun with the galactic centre of our Milky Way galaxy. The date of that alignment was chosen by the Mayans to mark the end of their calendar. Translated into our Gregorian calendar that date works out as December 21st 2012.

There is much debate about the actual end date of the Mayan Calendar and the date of the alignment between our sun and the galactic centre.  Some Mayan Scholars believe the calendar ends on December 23rd 2012. Author Carl Johan Calleman believes the date to be October 28th 2011.

Jenkins sites the period of time from 1998 to 2240 as that period where our sun is in alignment with the galactic core. He ties this to the end date of the Mayan calendar as well as significant dates in the Jewish calendar (the year 2240 marks year 6000 and the dawn of the seventh shemittah). Jenkins also finds connections with Islamic cosmology and the Hindu Chakra system. If there is anything you’d like to add please tell me about it in the comment box below.

I hope this gives you food for thought and gets a conversation started about the origins of the 2012 global phenomenon. It started as a date on a calender, that’s it! What this time on Earth means for us all, the role we play in creating our future and how to manage the shift inside and out will be explored over the next 7 days in 7 more blog posts as part of this free BlogCast: ‘Understanding 2012′ (see details below).

Much of the info out there about 2012 seems to exclude one very important aspect: YOU, what you think, feel, fear, sense and want to know about 2012 and the shift we live in. So I hope you will join me on this 8 day journey, get involved and have your say by leaving your comments and questions beneath each blog post.  I want to know what matters to you.

Love and blessings,
Kimberley ♥

  1. “Much of the info out there about 2012 seems to exclude one very important aspect: YOU, what you think, feel, fear, sense and want to know about 2012 and the shift we live in.”
It’s great to find a balanced article amongst all the doom-and-gloom 2012-hype. Thank you!

  2. Hi Kimberly,
Some very thorough explanations and very helpful as well to feeling my own truth. I also love reading the comments from your other readers and especially the one about people getting all fearful. I get frustrated with my family (or at least some members of my family who are fear mongers). They get so mad at me for trying to ignore their doom and gloom phone calls or emails, but it just doesn’t resonate with me. My mom especially wants to bemoan the political things that she feels are similar to HER favorite book (and now movie) “ATLAS SHRUGGED”. I never could get into the book and have no real desire to see the movie other than for entertainment purposes, but she is certain that Obama is going to make what happens in this story happen to the U.S. How do we deal with “Mass consciousness” concerning doom and gloom feelings by those we love but try to limit our time with?

  3. Just getting started with this great series and, WOW… what a gift, Kimberley! Thank you for taking the time to research, and the heart-space to wonder and wander, and deliver what looks like an incredible amount of broad, deep wisdom on a really provocative subject!

I confess that prior to this series, the mega-subject of 2012 never caused me great concern or pause because I do not see it as the end of time, but as the * fullness * of time. I hold the same mouth-watering anticipation for it as I do when I bite into a really ripe mango. Juicy, lip-smacking goodness is what I am creating and moving into. Rather than arrange my day or dream in response to the historical and contemporary projections of others I, more and more, am arranging them in response to my own yearning to create the soul virtues that light me up, chiefly: beauty, harmony and tenderness. Not exactly Old World values, lol. Some days I feel I must be incredibly naive to feel so cavalier about the coming era. Others day I think maybe my calm is an effect of being in Source’s embrace. It’s probably a quirky mix of both.

Either way, I am excited to move forward in the journey of these wonderful love-infused posts.

With thanks + love for Who You Are,
    Erika

    • Thanks Erika,
      Beautifully expressed as ever.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series which is all about grounded hope and infinite possibilities for our creative potential.
      Blessings,

  4. Hey Kim…great post. The idea of the world ending is becoming cliche. Through out his-story it has always been an issue, but this time I feel it is different. Their is “something” going on. Personally I feel that this time-line (2010-2015 and beyond) is about awareness and expanding consciousness…just take a look around, peeps are waking up (becoming aware) more and more everyday. Before I thought I might be “tripping out”. But now it is becoming more evident that this is not all hype(propaganda, new ager airy-fairy mumbo jumbo) it’s for real! My perspective is that limited/controlling consciousness is going bye-bye…it is the end of the old ways and the begining of the new WAY. It is up to us which way this new WAY will go.
No spaceships, no saviors, no rapture etc. “ONLY US”.
We are together but we must take responsibility individually and BE the change we want to SEE. No fear only AWAERENESS and SELF-REALISATION.
Much Love and Peace to everyone, Pete.

  5. What a marvelous contribution to the 2012 discussion, Kimberely. Thank you so much for your care, intelligence and ability to share this information and ideas. I admire you so much! What a treasure you are!

    • Hi Raquel,
Please do share any of my blog posts with your Facebook friends. I feel the information that springs through my heart centre to be written is to be shared widely so please do follow that impulse yourself.
      Thank you for your support.

  6. Kimberly, I am so grateful for this discussion. I’m finding that many of my FB friends that once seemed align with how I view this transition have given over to a doom-and-gloom, nightmare-inducing news entrenched, conspiracy theory-laden perspective that literally and figuratively sends me running in the opposite direction. I’m a headline skimmer, too; I can’t/won’t watch the news. Love and light! :-)

  7. Thanks Kimberly,
Pretty much what I had read on the subject. I liked that you put links to
words people might not be familiar with and a bibliography.
    I really enjoyed the video.
I like Don Alejandro´s energy , a happy , strong but soft , wise but youthful
    person.
    will assist tommorow.
    Love,
    Marisol

  8. Thank you Jody for that perspective, I don’t watch the news or read newspapers, but I am far from uninformed. I try not to buy into the fear. I also don’t want to be detached from reality, I would love your perspective Kimberly on staying connected to what is without going down the rabbit hole…

    • Good question Laura,
It has taken me a while to organise my own boundaries around that. So for example I am happy to skim read news headlines or do a Google search and see which listings come up, to get a general sense of what is going on in the world, but I won’t read the whole newspaper. I never watch TV news and I have friends on FB that are well-informed and deliver the latest news in a responsible way. So if anything major happens I will always hear about it without fully exposing myself to the fear soup.

In terms of 2012 I make sure I choose sources that ‘ring true’ for me and do not seem fear-based or overly sensational. Some days I feel too raw to watch videos so I will look at blogs. I dip into David Wilcock’s work quite a bit because he is so thorough and as a rule I feel OK with what he is sharing: http://www.divinecosmos.com

  9. For years I have been working with a Mayan healer in Mexico. Every time people ask him about 2012 he has no idea what they are talking about. He reminds us to connect spirit and ourselves and do our personal work. But not once have I heard him speak of the end of the world. He recently said that he has had dreams of more catastrophic weather and earth changes, this was two nights before the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. I appreciate you sharing a less fearful more rational perspective!

    • Thanks Laura,
Absolutely. In fact I feel much of my work with this blogcast is helping people manage the fear, hype and misinformation rather than any actual 2012 cataclysm. How wonderful to work with a Mayan healer!

  10. Hello Kimberley!
There are many that feel the End of Days quickly approaching, the media certainly isn’t helping by spreading the fear. I’m not normally affected by others fears but I’m finding I need to excuse myself from groups, webpages, the news, etc…
My ‘gut’ feeling is that All is Well and I trust it.

    • Hi Jody,
Good point. I am sensitive to such things too. Of course people are far more easily controlled, mainipulated and have their creativity stifled if they are in a state of fear. So very wise to steer clear.
